NaNoWriMo: a quick survey

According to the countdown clock on the official website, the start of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is only five days away!

I've written about NaNoWriMo before, here, but I'm curious: how many of you reading this plan to participate this year?

Let's do a quick survey in comments. Here's the rundown on what I'd like to know:

1) Are you planning to do NaNoWriMo this year?

2) Have you done NaNoWriMo before? If yes, how many times?

3) What genre would you say best fits your planned NaNoWriMo project?

Provided we've got a good number of people participating, I'm thinking of "theming" the November posts on the blog. I'll do a combination of my own advice and a lot of helpful links from around the internet.

I'm going to spend this NaNoWriMo on the sidelines (alas), but would love to cheer the rest of you on in the process!

I'm going to give it a go again. It's how I got rolling on my last novel two years ago. This time around, it's dystopian fiction based on a little known folk tale. :) e

I am not doing NaNo this year. :( I've got a week-long trip planned to help watch my two rambunctious nephews so my sister-in-law can take care of her newborn girl, so I won't have a lot of time for writing during that week! But I am going to have NaNo-esque writing goals for November (I still want to write every day, which is hard for me since I tend not to write when I'm on trips). I did NaNo in 2009 and loved it! Definitely didn't win, but it was inspiring and fun.
Good luck to all NaNo-ers!

I'm planning to do Nano again this year. I was an ML when I was living in Northern Ontario, and I really enjoy the community spirit of it all!

I usually write romance, but this year I have more of a fictional-memoir idea dancing around in my head.

I'm a NaNo girl from way back. I've been doing edits and such the past few years, but had a straight run of at least three years before that when I completed 50K+. My first two published novels began as NaNo books, as did at least one subsequent pubbed book. And no, I didn't write in November and sub in December ;-)

This year I'm going to try to do NaNo if I don't get hung up on edits for my book at Carina. I still owe Kelli Collins the last book in my contemporary series for Ellora's Cave, so I figured I'd work on that one (with the sequel to Gossamer Wing as a backup if the first one doesn't flow).

I haven't signed up yet for the year, I guess I need to go do that :-)

1) Yes, I am.
2) Nope, it's my first time!
3) Paranormal/Fantasy (YA)

And I think a themed blog post November sounds fantabulous!!

Yes! This will be my fifth year doing NaNo. Usually it's historical fiction for me, but this year I'm bowing to my agent's suggestions and trying a historical romance. ;)

I'm doing NaNo. It's my third year. Still working on revising those two. This year's attempt is a YA urban fantasy/magical realism, depending on how it goes.

I'm totally pumping up about NaNo! I've done it for the past few years and I wouldn't miss it for the world. It's what tides me over from Halloween to Christmas <3 I primarily write YA/MG stories about female protagonists, and the plots usually involve mythology (either ancient or cultural superstitions). **fistpump!** I'm excited. You should jump in and do it too!

I've never done it before, but I'm going to do it this year. I usually write Romance, so for an added challenge I'm going to try Contemporary Fantasy.

I'm looking forward to it!

I'll be doing NaNo again this year (my third year). The first year I wrote Snowed in With the Tycoon, and last year I wrote 75k words for The Pulse (which as you know isn't out yet).

This year I won't be able to play by the rules, exactly. Instead of writing one novel that's 50K words, I have four out of the five short novellas in my Dominatrix Fantasy Series to write, but the total should be around 50K words.

I guess I better go sign up, LOL.

Definitely. This is my third year. I'm doing fantasy (straight fantasy, set in another world, but not epic). I usually do fantasy or science fiction.

I will try NaNo again this year! I have not...um...actually finished a NaNoWriMo ever. Four or five years of trying, never finished. I get caught up in that whole word dump thing, end up going backwards to edit and never finish by the deadline. This year, I actually have a pretty solid idea of where I'm going to begin, since it's a story that has been on my mind for a long time. YA, boy voice, a little edgy, a little "sweary", no vampires or mythical creatures. Heh.
