The main thing the publisher worries about if you've previously published some portion of the work is that you may not control the rights to the work. As long as the rights are yours to grant, and as long as you're upfront about the material that's been previously "published," in my experience, the publishers don't care.

If anyone's worried about this, I'm happy to add language to the blog post containing the critique emphasizing that the rights to the work remain with the author, and that I have no claim whatsoever on the material.Courtney Miller-Callihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16225069684616730801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3026702090530441760.post-28859035240192515082012-12-14T11:40:57.525-08:002012-12-14T11:40:57.525-08:00Hi, Courtney, I have a question. I've heard that if even a portion of an unpublished MS is posted on a blog (or any public site), then it counts as being published and no publishers will consider it. Could this critique interfere with an opportunity down the road?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17045889072389880657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3026702090530441760.post-19794872444306796122012-12-14T08:47:33.117-08:002012-12-14T08:47:33.117-08:00Great opportunity - count me in! :)Great opportunity - count me in! :)Rachel Bateshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10979288125335844910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3026702090530441760.post-88408386927892906042012-12-14T07:46:54.430-08:002012-12-14T07:46:54.430-08:00Ooh fun!!
